Electrostatic Energy Harvesting Systems: A Better Understanding of Their Sustainability

Rita T. Aljadiri, Luay Y. Taha, and Paul Ivey
Abstract—This paper presents a review of electrostatic energy harvesting systems. It includes several types of electrostatic harvesters. The review is done based on two main categories, capacitor structure and conversion mechanism. Since electrostatic harvesters are important devices when sustainability is considered, this review gives an in depth evaluation and comparison of all possible configurations. It should be noted that this review is based on recent published literature.

Index Terms—Conversion mechanism, electrostatic, energy harvester, variable capacitor.
